Athletes: Sportsmanship
Byran Herrman, ALPs athlete and basketball player from Cumberland Wisconsin, took some time to share his insight on sportsmanship. Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) commends Bryan on taking a pro-active stance and breaking down his thoughts into specific behaviors. Sportsmanship is an ideal topic for athletes to take the lead, and we hope you will read Bryan's suggestions and support good sportsmanship in your Agency.
Sportsmanship guidelines

Here's what TO DO…
-
Work as a team
-
Get along with your teammates
-
Hustle at 100 percent at all times
-
Good sportsmanship at all times – win or loose
-
After the tournaments say thank you to the volunteers for helping to make this tournament work.
-
Make sure you say thank you after your first game and in the second game to referees. (Because if it weren't for them we wouldn't have the tournament.)
-
Always be polite to everyone at all the games and tournaments. You are representing your Agency.
-
The most important thing is to just go and have fun.
Here's what NOT TO DO….
-
No slamming basketballs down
-
No screaming at tournaments or referees
-
No screaming or talking back to the coach
-
No unsportsmanship-like fouls
-
Don't make fun of other teams.
