Outdoor Sports Tournament

August 1-3, 2014

845 athletes, 275 coaches, and hundreds of volunteers and spectators come together for one event, the Outdoor Sports Tournament. Athletes compete in golf, tennis, bocce and softball while benefitting from free health exams with Healthy Athletes’ Special Smiles, Fit Feet and Health Promotions programs.

Special Story

After years of competing in Special Olympics bowling, softball and basketball, 31-year-old Ike Walters decided it was time to take a swing at golf. He not only learned how to hit a drive, he scored a new friend in his partner, Steve Vitale.

Vitale, a Senior Managing Director at Valbridge Property Advisors, learned about Special Olympics Unified Golf, which partners players with and without disabilities together, through his golf league in Menomonee Falls.

In their first year as teammates, Ike and Steve qualified to compete at the State Outdoor Sports Tournament in Waukesha on August 1-3. According to the duo, the key to success on the green is teamwork, staying positive and trying your best. Read the rest of their story.

Special Thanks

A special thank you to the coaches, parents, volunteers, staff and community partners for making this event a success. We could not provide these sports and health opportunities without their support and involvement. Thank you for being a champion for our athletes and making a difference.
