Nearly two hundred Special Olympics athletes and 50 coaches from the United States represented their country as Team USA at these Games in Nagano, Japan from Feb. 26 – March 5. Approximately 2,500 athletes and 650 coaches from 80 different countries participated in this event.
The 2,500 athletes competed in alpine skiing, cross country skiing, figure skating, floor hockey, snowboarding, snowshoeing and speed skating.
Special Olympics is a year-round sports training and athletic competition program for children and adults with cognitive disabilities.
Special Olympics International (SOI) named Steve Meurett of Neillsville and Bonnie Kahn of Tomahawk as cross country skiing coaches. Also SOI named Dean Glaze of Neillsville as a volunteer Technical Delegate.
