Here's how to participate in the Final Leg

  1. Register online or fill out a paper registration form from the Special Olympics office nearest you.

  2. To participate in the Final Leg, raise a minimum of $25 in
    T-shirt sales or pledges. Here's how:

Summer Games Road Construction Update: The Hwy I-39/Hwy 51 Ramp for Exit 161 (Division St. or Business 51) will be closed during Summer Games due to road construction.
Alternate Route: From I-39/Hwy 51 take exit 159 and drive west on Highway 66 (Stanley Street) into the city.  continue to follow Stanley Street. Turn right on to Fourth Ave to reach the UWSP Campus.

June 5-6, 2008: Activities in Stevens Point, WI

Thursday June 5, 2008

2:30 p.m.

LETR Parade through downtown Stevens Point. Meet at corner of Church Street and College Court (behind the US Post Office). The parade will run through downtown and end at the host hotel, Ramada (formerly Country Springs Hotel).

3 p.m.

Check-in begins at host hotel, Ramada (formerly Country Springs Hotel). Call 800-998-2311 before May 5, 2008 for reservations and ask for the Torch Run block. Room rates are: $75 single/double/triple/quad; ; $90 dome; $110 hospitality; $160 suite.

4:45 p.m.

Pizza and Subs - The Pineries (Dome/Pool area), Ramada (formerly Country Springs Hotel). RAFFLE TICKET SALES BEGIN (12 tickets for $10).

6 p.m.

Begin arriving at Colman Track for the Opening Ceremony. Please car-pool and park in Lots S & J on Maria Drive (North of Colman Track). No shuttles will be provided from the hotel.

6:30 p.m.

Report to athlete staging area (Field south of Colman Track) - all LETR officers will welcome and escort athletes as they enter Colman Track. Officers welcome to bring patches, decals, etc. for athletes.

NOTE: Departments wanting to bring squad cars or cycles to be used in the Opening Ceremony, please report to Lots S & J (off of Maria Drive) at 6:30 p.m. in uniform.

7 p.m.

Summer Games Opening Ceremonies

8:00 p.m.

Any registered 2008 Law Enforcement Torch Run® participants may take part in the Cadence Run during the Opening Ceremony. You will be cued by the emcee when to report to Lots S & J (North of Colman Track) wearing your 2007 LETR Participant t-shirt (sage green) and black shorts.

8:30 p.m.
 

WSDSASpecial Olympics Wisconsin Law Enforcement Celebration Party presented by Wisconsin Sheriff’s & Deputy Sheriff’s Association: snacks, music and slide show of day's festivities. Raffle continues, winners drawn at 10:00 p.m. - Ramada (formerly Country Springs Hotel)

10 p.m.

Raffle ticket sales end; Celebration Party welcome with brief program, Fallen Heroes Tribute, slide show and Awards Presentation.

10:45 p.m.

Raffle Drawing Winners Announced (Approximate time)

Complimentary Continental Breakfast for LETR particiapnts -Restaurant in Ramada (formerly Country Springs Hotel)

8 a.m. -
2 p.m.

Law Enforcement hosted softball throw - Corner of Maria Dr. and Illinois Ave - Wisconsin law enforcement officers host the Softball Throw Special Olympics Competition

11 a.m. -
2 p.m.

Law Enforcement Static Display – Bring your department's squad or cycle for athletes to see. UW - Stevens Point, Reserve St.

Here is what is needed at Partner's Park:

  • Officers handing out miscellaneous law enforcement items (such as DARE items, cop cards, finger printing kits, etc.)
  • Squads and cycles for athlete viewing
  • Officers selling Law Enforcement Torch Run® t-shirts
  • Display unit with officers and athletes interacting
