SUMMARY:Athletes-As-Coaches (AAC)
DESCRIPTION:The Athletes-As-Coaches (AAC) Program is designed to help train and certify Athletes to become coaches in the Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) system.  This workshop will be held in-person on Saturday\, February 24\, 2024 from 10 am- 3 pm at the SOWI Madison office at 6582 Ronald Reagan Drive.  \nQuestions Contact Jeanne Hrovat: jhrovat@specialolympicswisconsin.org \nRegistration Deadline: Tuesday\, February 20\, 2024 \nRegistration Link \nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd06b6__VlZC3NUM8Cnlgrna2IAsPWLlHTddoTzVBZJTyYtCQ/viewform?usp=sf_link \nSpecial Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) welcomes and encourages athletes to assume leadership positions such as athlete-coach.  To be successful\, athletes wishing to coach in the SOWI system should first and foremost communicate their wishes to their Local Program Manager.  This provides an opportunity to determine the best plan for the local program and athlete\, as well as a time to discuss the criteria for involvement. \nCriteria for Involvement \n1)       Athletes wishing to coach in the SOWI system must be registered and screened as a participant in the AAC program.  This is done by completing a Class A volunteer Registration Form which includes taking the online Protective Behaviors training and completing the on-line General Coaches Certification (Athlete coaches must be 16 years old or older.) \n2)       Athletes must have a mentor in the AAC process\, and have the ability to meet the requirements of being a coach (attendance at practices and competitions\, etc.).  Local Program managers may assist the athlete\, but the athlete will be responsible for finding a mentor as well as transportation to and from practices and/or trainings as part of this program. \n3)       The athlete\, with the help of their mentor\, must adhere to all current coaching certification policies. \n4)       In addition\, athletes must complete this one-time ACC face-to-face workshop.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at Summer Games held Thursday-Saturday\, June 8-10\, 2023. All events will take place on the UW-Whitewater campus. \nFive sports will culminate their seasons at the Summer Games\, including State Athletics (Track & Field)\, State Cornhole\, State Powerlifting\, State Tennis and State Soccer competitions. \nHealthy Athletes disciplines will also be featured throughout portions of Summer Games. Health Promotions & Special Smiles will take place on Friday from 9:30a-3:30p. The HEAR WI Mobile Audiology Clinic will also be on-site from 10:00a-3:30p. All SOWI athletes–including those not competing at the Games–are encouraged to attend.
