SUMMARY:SOWI & Forward Madison Unified Soccer Team Tryouts
DESCRIPTION:The Unified Soccer Series is a partnership between Special Olympics Wisconsin\, Forward Madison\, Special Olympics Nebraska\, and Union Omaha. The series will include home-and-away matches between unified soccer teams in partnership with both USL clubs. \nThere will be a tryout held to create the unified team. Both Special Olympics athletes and unified partners are invited to tryout. The tryout will take place on Sunday\, April 2nd from 1:00pm-4:00pm at Breese Stevens Field in Madison\, WI. \nThe unified team will play two matches against the SONE Unified Union Omaha team. There may be other required events including a signing day\, practices\, and team social events. Teams that have Fitness Captains will: \n\nComplete appropriate warm-up and cool-down at each practice or training session\nLearn health education tips or lessons\nBe supported to practice healthy behaviors and encouraged to participate in other health/fitness programming\n\n  \nFitness Captains must: \n\nHave a passion for fitness\, exercise\, and healthy behaviors and can model this for their teammates\nAct as a positive influence with their teammates\nBe reliable\, dependable\, and respectful always\nShow great sportsmanship in all circumstances and have a great attitude\nBe great team members and genuinely care about those around them\nEffectively be able to communicate\n\n  \nCoaches may nominate an athlete to attend the Fitness Captain workshop by filling out this Nomination Form. DESCRIPTION:The Athletes-As-Coaches (AAC) Program is designed to help train and certify Athletes to become coaches in the Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) system. \nRegister by February 20\, at the link below. \nQuestions email Jeanne Hrovat at email below. \nThe Athletes-As-Coaches  (AAC) Program is designed to help train and certify Athletes to become coaches in the Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) system. \n  \nCriteria for Involvement \n1)      Athletes wishing to coach in the SOWI system must be registered and screened as a participant in the AAC program.  This is done by completing the Class A Volunteer Registration\, which includes taking the online Protective Behaviors training\, registration form\, and background check. Additionally\, coaches must complete the online General Coaches Certification. (Athlete coaches must be 16 years old or older.) \n2)      Athletes must have a mentor in the AAC process\, and have the ability to meet the requirements of being a coach (attendance at practices and competitions\, etc.).  Local Program Managers may assist the athlete\, but the athlete will be responsible for finding a mentor as well as transportation to and from practices and/or trainings as part of this program. \n3)      The athlete\, with the help of their mentor\, must adhere to all current coaching certification policies. \n4)      In addition\, athletes must complete this one-time AAC workshop.

DESCRIPTION:Accomplished SOWI athlete and Neillsville native Daina Shilts returns to X Games Aspen to defend her 2020 and 2022 gold medals in the Unified Snowboarding Dual Slalom event at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen\, Colo. \n \nTeams will be comprised of one professional action sports athlete–including X Games and Olympic medalists–and one Special Olympics action sports athlete for a total of six\, two-person tandems. Special Olympics Athletes in this year’s competition represent Colorado\, Oregon\, Tennessee\, Wisconsin\, and Finland. \nEach of the team members will take one run on each of the two competition courses\, with the professional athletes racing against one another and the Special Olympics athletes racing one another. The combined best times of each team will determine the finish. \nA Special Olympics athlete since she was eight years old\, Daina has medaled all seven times in Unified Snowboarding at X Games Aspen.
