DESCRIPTION:Fit Feet screens the medical wellness of athlete’s feet.  Education on foot and nail care will be provided by podiatrists and podiatry students.  Socks in a variety of men’s and woman’s sizes will be given away to athletes that attend Fit Feet (provided their size is in stock) and no tie shoelaces (while supplies last).  We also have orthotics available for those athletes in need. The Athlete Health Messenger workshop focuses on the Fit5 Curriculum (hydration\, nutrition and physical activity)\, and strong minds. \nFitness Captains Description: A Fitness Captain is an athlete leadership role on a sports team to lead the team in warm-ups and cool downs as well as provide fitness and health tips. DESCRIPTION:This is one of our Trainings for Athlete leaders. \nThis training will prepare athlete leaders to become mentors to new directors serving on the Special Olympics Wisconsin Board of Directors. During this training\, athlete leaders will learn how to mentor a new director on the Board of Directors structure\, responsibilities\, and connection to the Strategic Plan. After completion of this training\, selected athlete leaders will be added to a list to be paired with new directors based on geographical locations. Once paired\, you will be invited to join a virtual meet and greet with SOWI staff and your mentee. At this meeting\, you will exchange information to setup a time to meet in-person. These in-person meetings are most often at your local program practice\, competition or within your community to create a meaningful relationship between you\, your mentee\, and SOWI’s mission. \nIf you have taken you do not need to take again.  \n

SUMMARY:R2/3 District Track & Field Meet
DESCRIPTION:Make a Difference. Be a Volunteer. We’re looking for passionate volunteers to work with people with disabilities as they compete in Track and Field events. Over 400 Special Olympics athletes from Northern Wisconsin (Regions 2 & 3) will be competing at this District Track and Field Meet and we need your help. Please contact Kaytlin at KKassens@specialolympicswisconsin.org with questions. \nVolunteer Jobs and Shifts \nSetup  – Volunteers will help set up tents\, signage\, tables\, and chairs\, fill water jugs\, and deliver equipment to the appropriate event area. They will also sort the athlete meals and group them by agency. \nVolunteer Registration  – Volunteers will sign in all volunteers\, give them a t-shirt\, and direct them to their assigned area. \nSoftball Throw  – This is a developmental field event where athletes will have three trials to throw a softball as far as they can. Volunteers will stage athletes\, measure distances\, record scores\, and escort athletes to awards when they are finished. \nMini Javelin  – This is a field event where athletes will have three trials to throw a miniature javelin as far as they can. Volunteers will stage athletes\, measure distances\, record scores\, and escort athletes to awards when they are finished. \nShot Put  – This is a field event where athletes will have three trials to put a shot as far as they can with correct technique. Volunteers will stage athletes\, measure distances\, record scores\, and escort athletes to awards when they are finished. \nAwards  – Volunteers will collect award sheets\, verify that the placements are correct\, locate the corresponding ribbons in the binders\, and put on the labels. \nLong Jump  – In this field event athletes will participate in either the running or standing long jump. Volunteers will stage athletes\, measure distances\, rake the sand pits\, record scores\, and escort athletes to awards when they are finished. \nTrack Stager  – Volunteers will be at the start line placing athletes in the correct divisions. \nTrack Walker  – Volunteers will be at the finish line to escort athletes to awards as athletes finish their races. \nTrack Timer  – Volunteers will be assigned a lane before each race and use a stopwatch to time that lane from the finish line. \nWheelchair Events  – Assist with staging and timing on the track for wheelchair athletes. \n  \nVisit below to sign up: \nhttps://cerv.is/0392×412

DESCRIPTION:Special Smiles (funding provided by Delta Dental of Wisconsin Foundation) performs dental screenings to increase awareness of oral health. At the screening\, dentists and hygienists identify oral problems\, while athletes are provided with hygiene education\, a “goodie bag” with dental care items (automatic toothbrush while supplies last)\, fitted mouth guards and fluoride varnish! SUMMARY:Healthy Athletes - Healthy Hearing
DESCRIPTION:Healthy Hearing conducts hearing screenings. Reduced hearing can have a significant negative impact on an athlete’s ability to respond to directions\, as well as understand verbal information from coaches at practice and competitions. Hearing loss affects one’s safety and interpersonal relationships. SUMMARY:Healthy Athletes - FUNfitness
DESCRIPTION:FUNfitness screenings are conducted by Physical Therapists and physical therapy students. They assess flexibility\, functional strength and balance of the athlete.  After the assessment\, athletes will receive a take-home booklet and education on recommended stretches/exercises personalized to them based on the results of their strength\, flexibility and balance tests.
