This workshop is for athletes or unified partners to grow as Athlete Health Messengers and Fitness Captains\, roles that empower you to lead in fitness\, health\, and wellness within your Special Olympics Wisconsin communities. Participants will explore the Fit5 Curriculum (hydration\, nutrition\, physical activity\, and strong minds)\, practice leadership skills\, and gain tools to inspire healthy habits in others. \nAthlete Health Messenger Description: A Health Messenger is a Special Olympics athlete or unified partner who has been trained to serve as a health and wellness leader\, educator\, advocate and role model within their Special Olympics communities and the community at large. The Athlete Health Messenger workshop focuses on the Fit5 Curriculum (hydration\, nutrition and physical activity)\, and strong minds. \nFitness Captains Description: A Fitness Captain is an athlete leadership role on a sports team to lead the team in warm-ups and cool downs as well as provide fitness and health tips. DESCRIPTION:This is one of our Trainings for Athlete leaders. \nThis training will prepare athlete leaders to become mentors to new directors serving on the Special Olympics Wisconsin Board of Directors. During this training\, athlete leaders will learn how to mentor a new director on the Board of Directors structure\, responsibilities\, and connection to the Strategic Plan. After completion of this training\, selected athlete leaders will be added to a list to be paired with new directors based on geographical locations. Once paired\, you will be invited to join a virtual meet and greet with SOWI staff and your mentee. At this meeting\, you will exchange information to setup a time to meet in-person. These in-person meetings are most often at your local program practice\, competition or within your community to create a meaningful relationship between you\, your mentee\, and SOWI’s mission. \nIf you have taken you do not need to take again.  \n

They will also sort the athlete meals and group them by agency. \nVolunteer Registration  – Volunteers will sign in all volunteers\, give them a t-shirt\, and direct them to their assigned area. \nSoftball Throw  – This is a developmental field event where athletes will have three trials to throw a softball as far as they can. Volunteers will stage athletes\, measure distances\, record scores\, and escort athletes to awards when they are finished. \nMini Javelin  – This is a field event where athletes will have three trials to throw a miniature javelin as far as they can. Volunteers will stage athletes\, measure distances\, record scores\, and escort athletes to awards when they are finished. \nShot Put  – This is a field event where athletes will have three trials to put a shot as far as they can with correct technique. Volunteers will stage athletes\, measure distances\, record scores\, and escort athletes to awards when they are finished. \nAwards  – Volunteers will collect award sheets\, verify that the placements are correct\, locate the corresponding ribbons in the binders\, and put on the labels. \nLong Jump  – In this field event athletes will participate in either the running or standing long jump. DESCRIPTION:Healthy Hearing conducts hearing screenings. Reduced hearing can have a significant negative impact on an athlete’s ability to respond to directions\, as well as understand verbal information from coaches at practice and competitions. Hearing loss affects one’s safety and interpersonal relationships.
