Volunteer Aquatics Coaching Positions | Ozaukee County Special Olympics Local Program
Volunteer Aquatics Coaching Positions Available for the Aquatics 2026 Season. The 2026 Aquatics season anticipates an additional 3-5 athletes to the competitive team roster. Additional coaching staff will be needed.
The season begins January 3, 2026, and ends April 19, 2026. Practices are at the District Aquatics Center (DAC) located at the Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Port Washington each Saturday from 9:30 AM to 12:00 Noon.
Must be registered with Special Olympics Wisconsin as a Class A Volunteer and complete the general coaching certification. Certification through USA Swimming (online coaching course) as an Aquatics Coach strongly encouraged. Candidates must have swimming experience preferably as a competitive swimmer, aquatics coach, lifeguard, rescue swimmer, and/or a Water Safety Instructor. Participating High School Athletes (swimmers) may be able to use the coaching time as credit for community service.
Functions of the position involve: training competitive swimmers with emphasis on technique, endurance, deep-well and water competency, and proper competitive mind-set with the supervision of athletes at all Aquatics level events. Appropriate response to in-water and deck emergencies. CPR/Defibrillator Certification recommended. Attendance of 100% of all practices, events, and the State Games is required. Will be assigned to the more intermediate and advanced swimmers on the team.

Regional Games Management Team Member
Special Olympics Wisconsin provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with cognitive disabilities. The Games Management Team will assist the Regional Sports staff in planning and implementing Regional and District Competitions as well as training schools for coaches and athletes. A variety of time commitments are available. Hours are flexible. GMT Members are asked to attend a minimum of 2 events per year.
Qualifications:
- Excellent organizational & communication skills are helpful.
- Knowledge of sports is necessary.
- Occasional travel and some evening & weekend work is required
- GMT members are at times required to assist with some heavy lifting and moving equipment.
- Must be a Class A Certified Special Olympics Volunteer and kept current.
GMT Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and coordination of SOWI Regional competitions.
- Assist with volunteer management
- Interaction with various coaches and volunteers~ enforcing games rules and etiquette.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks and set up/tear down of events.
- Attend planning meetings-approximately 3 per year. These are scheduled in the evening time and are flexible on days and times
