Fitness

Special Olympics Health is made possible by the Golisano Foundation in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Special Olympics team around the world, and here in Wisconsin, works to integrate health into Special Olympics sports, families and youth programming … and physical fitness is a huge part of what we do for our Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes.

Performance Stations

Performance Stations are events held four times a year and near the field of play at tournaments or Games. These stations help prepare athletes to compete to their personal best and make the connection between fitness and athletic performance.

Performance stations educate and prepare athletes for competition using and the major components of fitness: Nutrition, Hydration and Physical Activity.

You do not need to be competing at event to attend the Performance Station

Fitness Captains

A Fitness Captain is an athlete leadership role on a sports team to lead the team in activities related to fitness and healthy habits. Fitness Captains have a passion for fitness, exercise, and healthy behaviors and can bring this mindset to their teammates.

To become a Fitness Captain, athletes attend a two-hour workshop. It will include content on leadership in fitness, fitness components, the benefits of fitness, how to lead sport specific warm-ups and cool-downs, and sharing health education tips.

Coaches can nominate an athlete from their team to become a Fitness Captain. Athletes, if you are interested, please talk to your coach to make sure they are on the same page to implement having a Fitness Captain at practice.
