Youth Activation Committee (YAC)
Special Olympics Wisconsin’s Youth Activation Committee (YAC) consists of students, ages 14-18 from across the state, both with and without intellectual disabilities. To become a part of this committee, students must fill out an application and go through an interview.
What Does our Youth Activation Committee Do?
Members of the YAC are selected to represent Special Olympics Wisconsin and Unified Champion Schools from June 2024 to June 2025. YAC members are change agents in schools across that state, fostering respect for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Throughout the year members will have key volunteer roles at State Games, host a Youth Summit, work with the Athlete Leadership Committee, and most importantly adhere to the goals and standards of the Special Olympics Wisconsin mission.
YAC Members are expected to:
- Attend at least TWO Special Olympics Wisconsin State Games as a key volunteer
- Participate in YAC Zoom and in-person meetings (monthly)
- Participate in one of the following committees to plan and execute tasks related to the committee
- Dance committee: work with YAC/ALC liaison to pick out decorations for dance and assist in setting up the dance at State Games
- Spread the Word committee: work with YAC liaison and committee members to organize and plan STW week for our Unified Champion Schools
- Youth Summit committee: work with YAC liaison and committee members to organize and plan the Annual Youth Summit
Our 2024-25 Youth Activation Committee will be announced soon so come back for updates and to meet the team!
