Law Enforcement Torch Run

Guardians of the Flame

Since 1986, members of Law Enforcement in Wisconsin have been working to raise awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) champions acceptance and inclusion for athletes with intellectual disabilities, promoting equal treatment, and highlighting their unique gifts, talents, and abilities.

We invite members of law enforcement to join us in creating opportunities to unite and educate our community.

Flame of Hope

Law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into Opening Ceremonies of local competitions, as well as Special Olympics State, National, Regional and World Games. There are more than 97,000 law enforcement members that carry the “Flame of Hope” annually.

Final Leg

Every year, Law Enforcement agencies carry the Flame of Hope hundreds of miles through communities across Wisconsin, culminating at the Special Olympics Wisconsin Summer Games. If there isn’t a final leg route near you, your agency can plan a fun run in your community to support Special Olympics Wisconsin!

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® is an integral part of our SOWI community. All interested representatives in the law enforcement community looking to join the movement should fill out this form.

Law Enforcement Engagement

“I’ve been working in law enforcement for 25 years, and the last 15 I’ve been involved with Special Olympics Wisconsin and Law Enforcement Torch Run.  It has been one of the most rewarding and positive things I’ve done in my career. Everyone working together at these events makes for an uplifting experience for me and everyone involved.”
