Local law enforcement took to the roofs at 65 Dunkin’ locations across Wisconsin on Friday, May 19 for the 11th annual Cop on a Rooftop. Through this event, Dunkin’ and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wisconsin (LETR) together raised nearly $68,000 to support Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes and programming.
Cop on a Rooftop was held at select Dunkin’ stores across all seven Special Olympics Wisconsin regions—from Menomonie to Milwaukee and Manitowoc to Monroe.
Members of LETR representing statewide police and fire departments and first-responders waved signs and donut-shaped props to promote and support Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes with an in-store donation drive. Each Dunkin’ guest who made a donation between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. earned a coupon for a free donut. Guests donating $10 or more received a coupon for a free medium hot or iced coffee.
The Oak Creek Dunkin’ location at 8750 S. Howell Avenue raised a whopping $2,853—the highest individual store total in the state. Locations in Appleton ($2,610), Tomah ($2,453), Hartford ($2,203), and Sun Prairie ($2,072) also eclipsed the $2K mark with nine additional stores raising more than $1,500 each.
The $68,000 raised will go directly to SOWI athletes, providing opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to participate in a variety of sports programming, foster a healthy lifestyle, develop social and leadership skills, and create a sense of belonging and inclusion within their own communities.
Over the previous nine years of the event, Cop on a Rooftop had raised more than $500,000 for Special Olympics Wisconsin.
Since 1986, compassion, joy and hope has ignited a movement among law enforcement in Wisconsin to spread awareness of individuals with intellectual disabilities. LETR volunteers educate the community about the gifts, talents and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities and create opportunities to bring the community together. As the single largest year-round fundraising vehicle benefiting Special Olympics Wisconsin, LETR has raised more than $32 million for Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes.
