Knocking down pins is Jodi Zimmerman’s idea of a good time. Every Saturday, she polishes her purple bowling ball, ties up her white bowling shoes, rubs her lucky 300 pin for good luck and heads to the alley.
“I just go there and do the best I can,” she said.
Zimmerman has competed in Special Olympics bowling for approximately 15 years; the highlight of her career so far was when she played for Team Wisconsin at the 2010 USA Games in Lincoln, Nebraska.
She earned a third place in singles during regional competition this fall and advanced to sectionals last weekend, where she won 1st place. Now she’s qualified for the Southern Fall State Sports Tournament this December.
According to Zimmerman, who bowls a 120 on average, the secret to success is the ability to focus.
“Concentration [is the key],” she said. “I get distracted, I take a deep breath and think of something good.”
Wish Zimmerman good luck as she continues training for State! Visit our Facebook page for tournament updates.
