Special Olympics Wisconsin will be celebrating its fifth annual Champions Together Breakfast at the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin in Milwaukee on Tuesday, October 30.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and offers a complimentary breakfast and a program of powerful and inspirational testimonials from athletes, families and volunteers as Special Olympics Wisconsin highlights the positive impact its mission has on all those involved.

This year’s event will feature Team Milwaukee athlete and published author Marquis Garner, who electrified the crowd during the Opening Ceremony of the State Summer Games earlier this year with a powerful speech and reading from his book.

Garner’s story of his struggles with bullying and fitting in during his childhood is documented in his book Have You Ever Wished You Were Someone Else? Carrying the Weight of Autism. But the book also powerfully conveys how Special Olympics helped change his life.

“SOWI has given me more courage to do things and more of a sense of purpose,” Garner said.

This will be the second consecutive year the Breakfast is held in Milwaukee. Last year’s celebration allowed Special Olympics Wisconsin to raise awareness and support for Special Olympics athletes like Marquis – last year raising over $105,000 in cash and pledges!

“We thank our previous guests and donors, and look forward to another memorable morning of fun and inspiration,” said Claire Essman, Special Olympics Wisconsin’s Director of Individual Giving.

This year’s Champions Together Breakfast is made possible in part thanks to two generous corporate partners. Gordon Flesch is a Gold Medal Partner for this year’s breakfast while Baker Tilly has joined as a Bronze Medal Partner.
