Become a Class A Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) and making a difference in the lives of the thousands of athletes our program serves!  By completing this volunteer application process and becoming a Class A Volunteer, you will assist SOWI in providing a safe and quality environment for Special Olympics athletes to train and compete.

What is a Class A Volunteer?

  • Coach or Assistant Coach
  • Chaperone
  • Local Program/Agency Manager
  • Games Management Team Member
  • Unified Sports Partner

Items to Note

  • All steps must be completed for a volunteer application to be processed.
  • Allow up to two weeks for processing of volunteer applications.
  • If you are under 18, proceed to Class A Minor Form.

Becoming a Class A Volunteer is as easy as 1-2-3!

NOTE: The Special Olympics Learn Portal will be down August 1st -August 14th to transition to a new platform. During this time, Protective Behaviors Training will not be available. Please email [email protected] with questions.

Complete the online Protective Behaviors training and test

The following information is required to complete your application:

  • If you are a returning volunteer, please log into your Special Olympics Learning Portal account, and select “Re-certify” under the Protective Behaviors course. Beginning on August 1st, 2023 all returning learners will be prompted to reset their passwords

Submit the Class A Volunteer Application

The following information is required to complete your application:

  • Date of Protective Behaviors test completion
  • Copy of State- or Federal-issued Photo ID
  • Agency / Young Athletes / UCS Number*

*This number is in the form of #-## (ex. 6-12). You MUST include an accurate Agency Number for your application to be processed. If you have not yet connected with or are unsure of your Agency Number, please contact your local Athletic Director.

ALL STEPS MUST BE COMPLETED FOR A VOLUNTEER APPLICATION TO BE PROCESSED.

  1. Complete the online Protective Behaviors trainig and test (for volunteers 16 and older)
  2. Complete the Class A Minor Form and submit via email or postal mail
