Special Olympics Wisconsin and SentryWorld golf course in Stevens Point have partnered to host the inaugural SentryWorld Special Olympics Wisconsin Golf Classic on September 11.
SentryWorld is one the nation’s premier golf courses and a longtime SOWI supporter. SOWI is honored to be participating in the inaugural Golf Classic, which is presented by the Dan and Patti Rashke (TASC) Family Foundation.
This unique golf event limits participants to 192, giving guests a premium golf experience paired with the celebratory nature of a Special Olympics event. Athletes will be in attendance, along with SOWI’s Unified golf pair representing Team USA at the 2019 Special Olympics World Games, bringing both the mission and camaraderie to the forefront.
“It has been wonderful to watch the team at Special Olympics Wisconsin work with local community leaders here in central Wisconsin to organize what will be an outstanding day of golf and camaraderie supporting the Special Olympics athletes. We hope to continue this partnership for many years to come.” – Danny Rainbow, SentryWorld’s Director of Golf
The event will include exciting elements like a silent auction, a dinner program and a special guest appearance by legendary former UW-Stevens Point basketball coach Jack Bennett. During his 10-year run as the winningest coach in school history, Bennett led to the program to two NCAA Division 3 Basketball Championships and five Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships.
The unique appeal of the Golf Outing has SOWI excited for what’s to come this year and beyond. “I think this is an extraordinary opportunity to partner with SentryWorld. The Sentry Foundation has been a sponsor of our Summer Games and we look forward to growing our relationship with Sentry through this event,” said Jordan Becker, SOWI’s director of special events for the region.
Not only has SentryWorld’s foundation been a sponsor for the Summer Games, but SentryWorld also donated a portion of the proceeds from last year’s Close the Course Run/Walk to SOWI and invited SOWI athletes to participate in a free run/walk event.

This already established relationship has helped pave the way for what will surely be a one-of-a-kind golf experience. The folks at SentryWorld are just as excited to kick off this new tradition as SOWI’s Becker.
“SentryWorld values its partnership with Special Olympics Wisconsin and is very proud to be hosting this event,” SentryWorld’s Director of Golf Danny Rainbow said. “It has been wonderful to watch the team at Special Olympics Wisconsin work with local community leaders here in central Wisconsin to organize what will be an outstanding day of golf and camaraderie supporting the Special Olympics athletes. We hope to continue this partnership for many years to come.”
So this September 11, let’s kick things off right during what will hopefully be the first of many SentryWorld Golf Classics!
