Deerfield, WI – On Sunday, July 17, 2016, the annual Andrea Rose Garcia Memorial Pistol Shoot and annual Sergeant Tom Baitinger Memorial Motorcycle Ride will take place in Deerfield, Wisconsin. These events will be held in conjunction with each other to benefit Special Olympics Wisconsin.
Andrea Rose Garcia was a former Special Olympics volunteer who especially enjoyed helping with the Madison Polar Plunge. After Garcia was tragically killed in an automobile accident, the Pistol Shoot was dedicated in her honor. The Pistol Shoot will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 17, at the Deerfield Pistol and Archery Center. Registration is $25, which includes targets and lunch. Ammo will be available to purchase and handguns will be available to rent. Awards will be given to the top Special Olympics Wisconsin athlete shooters, as well as the top female and male shooters.
Sergeant Tom Baitinger is a former member of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office. Baitinger participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wisconsin during his time in Dane County. Sergeant Baitinger was killed in the line of duty in 2011, while he was working for the St. Petersburg (FL) Police Department. The motorcycle ride was created to honor Baitinger, and to raise money for Special Olympics. Registration for this year’s Memorial Ride will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 17. A short program will take place at 12:30 p.m. and the ride will begin around 1:00 p.m. The cost for each motorcycle operator is $25 and each passenger is $15, which includes lunch. The ride will start and end at the Deerfield Firemen’s Park.
Mark Horstmann, a lieutenant with the Verona Police Department and organizer of both events stated, “Andrea and Tom were both taken from us too soon. It is a privilege to honor them by raising money for Special Olympics Wisconsin—a cause that was important to both of them.”
Everyone is invited to the Deerfield Firemen’s Park pavilion from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. for great food, a silent auction, raffle, live music and games for kids! Both events and all associated activities are open to public. Local band Pacific Coast Highway will be performing from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to Special Olympics Wisconsin.
