No matter where you are in Wisconsin, the new Sun Run & Solar Plunge debuting this month is guaranteed to be a fun, safe and unique in-person experience that will help you start your summer in style.
Each of the four locations offers a 5K experience that will be unlike anything you have ever run, walked or wheeled – and all for just $35 per person or $120 for a group of four!
The series will kick off on June 12 in Oconomowoc and Oshkosh. In Oconomowoc, participants will have the opportunity to race along scenic Lake Country Trail beginning at Roosevelt Park. When they return, they can cool off with an optional plunge in an icy pool. There will also be a kids dash, Imagination Station and Kid’s Zone activities for the little ones, as well as food trucks, a DJ and more.
The Oshkosh event will take place at Menominee Park & Zoo, a location familiar to Special Olympics Wisconsin fans in the area as the site of our Oshkosh Polar Plunge for two decades. This picturesque route takes participants along the shores of Lake Winnebago and even goes around the Menominee Park Zoo. In addition to the kids dash and optional plunge, attendees can enjoy tasty food and drinks courtesy of the Any Street Grill food truck.
On June 19, residents of the Madison area will get in on the action when they cruise through the idyllic Monona community. This event features food carts, yard games and activities for the whole family, a costume contest, and even a dog jog that’s sure to be adorable.
The Sun Run & Solar Plunge series concludes its in-person events in Milwaukee on June 26 with what is perhaps the most unique of all the events. Participants will get to race at their own pace around the historic Milwaukee Mile Speedway at Wisconsin State Fair Park. After the run, folks can enjoy the family-friendly activities like the Kid’s Zone, food, a DJ and more at this event presented by Old National Bank.
Although the COVID numbers are thankfully dwindling in Wisconsin, safety is still our #1 priority for these events. All attendees will be required to follow state and local COVID safety protocols that include wearing masks before and after the 5K and socially distancing from other guests not in your household.
For those too far from these locations or who aren’t quite ready to return to in-person events, there is also a virtual option. DIY registrants can complete their own run and plunge on their own time, at their own pace and on their own route anytime during the month of June! The DIY Sun Run & Solar Plunge is presented by Catholic Financial Life.
