Special Olympics Wisconsin is partnering with GiGi’s Playhouse in Wausau beginning this fall to help provide young children opportunities to grow through Special Olympics Wisconsin’s Young Athletes programming.
Young Athletes is a sport and play program for children ages 2-10 with and without intellectual disabilities. This fun and inclusive program offers families, teachers, caregivers, and people from the community the chance to share the joy of sports with all children and abilities. The program wants to give children with and without intellectual disabilities the chance to play together and, more importantly, learn about one another. The program benefits include improved motor skills, increased acceptance and understanding of others, and social, emotional and learning skills.
In fall of 2019 GiGi’s Playhouse will hold the grand opening of the Wausau Popup Playhouse. GiGi’s Playhouse is a Down syndrome achievement center that offers free educational and therapeutic programming to individuals of all ages with Down syndrome, their families, and the community. The mission of GiGi’s Playhouse is to change the way the world views Down syndrome and send a global message to acceptance for all. And at this new location and partnership in Wausau they will look to keep pushing out their mission all throughout Wisconsin.
