Spread the Word to End the Word awareness day is almost here! On Wednesday, March 5, communities around the world will participate in the sixth annual Spread the Word to End the Word awareness day, which aims to end the hurtful use of the R-word (retard or retarded) and its negative impact on people with intellectual disabilities.
Students in more than 20 schools throughout Wisconsin will help Spread the Word to End the Word (retard or retarded) by hosting R-word rallies, wearing Spread the Word to End the Word T-shirts and signing pledge banners to help promote the creation of a more tolerant and accepting school climate.
Spread the Word to End the Word is an ongoing, year-round effort, created by students with and without intellectual disabilities in 2009. The campaign continues to make great strides in the fight to eliminate use of the R-word because passionate supporters have created communities of respect.
