Track & Field
About Track & Field
Likely the most-recognized sport of Special Olympics Wisconsin, Track & Field (Athletics) is offered in every Special Olympics program in the world representing over 140 countries and is one of the most popular sports among athletes. Athletes are grouped in divisions according to their ability level, age, and gender.
Athletes can compete in running events from the 100-meter dash to the 800-meter run. Some athletes also compete in field events such as the long jump and softball throw. Athletes of lower ability can participate in walking and throwing events and physically disabled athletes compete in wheelchair events.
2024 Competition Options
SOWI will host six regional competitions across the state during the month of May. All athletes must compete in a regional competition based on their region. Each program will receive quota spots for athletes to advance to the State Meet at the Summer Games. At Summer Games, athletes may compete in any event they placed first, second, or third during regional competition.
